Learning how to play basketball is learning its fundamentals. Here are those:

1. Dribbling - is important to penetrate to the hoop, move the ball across the court, get away from the defense, and find a good passing lane. There are different types of dribbles:

• change-of-pace,
• crossover dribble,
• behind the back,
• pull back dribble,
• low dribble,
• basic dribble,
• between the legs dribble

2. Passing - A good offensive attack requires good passing from players. This helps find an open man, to find a good shooter or to get away from a defender. There are several types of passes you need to learn:

• Overhead Pass
• Chest Pass
• Push Pass
• Baseball Pass
• Off-the-Dribble Pass
• Bounce Pass

3. Shooting - The object of the game is to win by scoring the most points. Therefore, improving the team’s shooting is important to win a game. There are several ways to score in the game:

• Jump Shot
• Dunk
• Alley oop
• Free throw
• Layup
• Three-Point Shot
• Hook Shot

4. Rebounding - is essential to gain or regain possession after the shot. Usually, the team who has the most number of rebounds after the game has more shot attempts and chances to score.

5. Offense - is the only chance that the team has a shot at the basket and scoring. Playing a good offense requires coordination among players and individual skill to execute well plays.

6. Defense - To be able to get a chance to score and gain possession, the team should play good defense and try to stop their opponent from scoring. As said, “A good defense is a good offense.”

7. Moves - There are different kinds of basketball moves that are important in executing both a good offense and a good defense. Moves are helpful in finding an open man, make a good shot or create an amazing play.

8. Violations - Knowing the kinds of basketball violations improves your game.

9. Assist - is given to a teammate to help him score easily. Thus is it important to find an open man on the court

10. Foul - is often an accidental contact made by the defender to his opponent or an aggressive move by the ball-handler towards his defender. However, a foul is also used as a strategy to stop the clock or to keep the shooting player from scoring easily. Learning how to use your fouls well is important in the game.

Not so long ago, anyone participating in sporting events would never get to watch themselves.

Then, someone got the bright idea to videotape the events so they could be saved and rewatched.

Here’s what the typical scenario used to be: Some nice friend would show up with one of those gigantic camcorders, one of the ones you need two hands to hold, and attempt to catch your mountain biking exploits on tape? The video was usually very jumpy, you weren’t always in the line of sight, and the sound would be muffled.

I suppose that’s better than nothing, but there are a lot of flaws to this method of recording your sporting events.

Fortunately, camcorder technology has come a long way in the last few years. Cameras and recorders are smaller, have better resolution, and have better sound than ever before.

The newest helmet cams and bullet cams (or lipstick cams), with small personal digital video recorders are the perfect solution for recording your sporting events. The tiny camera attaches securely to your helmet and the small, lightweight personal digital video recorder tucks away safely into your pocket.

With a solid-state design and no moving parts, these devices are very durable and can really take the abuse of extreme sports. You can’t hold onto one of those old camcorders and record what you see! (Well, let’s just say that’s been proven to be a really bad idea and you really shouldn’t…..)

The Perfect Way to Record Trail Riding and Stunts

The new helmet cams, bullet cams and personal digital recorders are the perfect way to record extreme sports. The helmet cam stays focused on exactly what you see while you are doing any stunts or tricks. Be the first on your block to make skateboarding videos. Be that guy that really tries everything, and makes skydiving videos, too! There are no limits to how the helmet cam can be used to record your sporting achievements.

Easy to Use

Helmet cams with personal digital video recorders are easy to use. Get the equipment set up, and just hit start before you begin. Let the camera roll for the entire event, capturing every highlight, every move, and, every wipeout, too!!

Having the helmet cam attached to your helmet with the recorder in your pocket means no distractions while you are filming your extreme sports video. This means you are safer, your hands are free, and you are better able to concentrate on what you’re doing.

Share the Excitement

With the new helmet cam and personal digital video recorder equipment, it’s really easy to transfer the video footage to your PC and watch it over and over again. It’s simple to make DVDs, or email the videos to your friends and family to show off your tricks. Post your mountain biking footage on video websites like revver.com opr youtube.com and amaze the world.

Be careful about sending it to your mother without proper warning, though. She may not want to know…..

“Race fans may enjoy the Daytona 500 Party more than watching the race at a sports bar with enough attention to party planning. There are two main elements to a sports party: food and a big screen television. A small T.V. will due in a pinch if traffic flow is considered in the viewing room.

When this is a necessity try setting the food in a separate location from the T.V. This will encourage non-race conversation to take place away from the serious sports fans. That will allow for less tension with those trying to concentrate on the smaller screen. T.V. trays will be a welcome addition to the viewing area allowing fans to grab snacks and quickly return to their race without the awkward balancing act that a plate and beverage would otherwise necessitate.

New for the coverage of the 2007 Daytona 500 stockcar race will be its prime time schedule. The race will begin at 4p.m. and last well after dark. Be prepared to entertain guests for hours since they may be inclined to stay well after the end of the race. Pre-race coverage starts early so don’t plan any other activities for the day of this race!

It is likely that both a late lunch and dinner will be expected for a Daytona 500 Party. Cold cut platters, potato chips and themed paper party goods can be the best approach to feeding this crowd during the long race. Another idea would be to use slow cookers for baked beans or cocktail wieners. Buffet style serving is a must and cold beverages need to be kept on ice near enough for race fans to quickly refresh their own drinks.

When all preparations are made the only thing left is to listen for the instruction: “Gentlemen, start your engines!””

Go to any pro shop or golf store and take a look at the range putters for sale. There is a bewildering array of club shapes, lengths and styles. There are more types and variations in putters than any other club in the bag.

If you were to quickly look at what is on display you may come across any or all of the following (and possibly a few more)

Here is a (non-exhaustive) list of what you may find:

Long putters
Short putters
Heavy putters
Light putters
2-ball putters
3-ball putters
Cylinder head putters
Mallet head putters
D-shape putters
Blade putters
Face balanced putters

…and the list goes on!

With all this choice, how do you know if you have a putter that will work for you? Well, first and foremost, don’t get overwhelmed by all the choice. Here are my recommendations on getting a putter:

1. Invest in a decent putter!

You can spend many 100’s of dollars on a driver which you may only use 10 times a round. Remember that you hit almost 50% of your shots with the putter, so get something you are going to be comfortable with. As with most things you get what you pay for, so if you buy something really cheap the chances are it just won’t help you in the long run.

2. Choose a relatively ’standard’ putter

Shoulder high putters, ‘belly’ putters etc. are not standard and do not promote learning proper technique. Standard putters have a length in the range 33 to 35 inches (84-90cm), and research actually shows that statistically the shorter putters perform better.

3. Test the putter

You must actually try the putters out to see how they feel. This is just as important with putters as it is with all clubs. Choose 3 or 4 putters that you think are going to be the ones you like and test them against each other. Preferably take the putters onto a real green (or synthetic green) as opposed to putting on the shop floor carpet. Hitting real balls in to real holes on a real green will give you a real feel.

4. Get the putter custom fitted

Chances are that any putter you buy may still not be quite right for you. After all we are not all the same height, weight and shape, so it would be a bit much to assume that an off the shelf putting would be right for all of us. Have the professional check the length and lie-angle for you and adjust it if necessary. This should be part of the service when buying a putter at any decent golf store or pro shop.

If you bear these tips in mind when buying your next putter you will be confident you have the right putter for you. Confidence builds success.

There are literally thousands of places on the web to get your sports news information. Whether you want the latest headlines, up to the second scores, editorials, or in depth analysis, there are a myriad of choices for you. While some sites only offer one or two of those things, there are several that offer all of those and more. My Top 5 are below:

5. Yahoo! Sports (sports.yahoo.com) - this site is all substance and no flash. It looks essentially the same as it did five years ago. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, it just doesn’t knock your socks off. Any information that you need is readily available and up to date. Columnists aren’t as well known as the top sites, but they are solid.

4. FOX Sports (msn.foxsports.com) - a few years ago this site was a mess. It was the anti-Yahoo! - all flash and no substance. In the past few years they’ve toned down the flash and increased the substance. The live gamecasts at the top of the page are extremely innovative. For example, for a baseball game you not only see the score, but also an overview of the diamond and what runners are on base. If you are interested in a specific game you can roll your mouse over it and get more details. If FOX keeps innovating like that, they won’t be number 4 for long.

3. Sports Illustrated (sportsillustrated.cnn.com) - this site excels in two things - editorials and rumors. They have THE best writers (they are Sports Illustrated after all) and they do an excellent job of providing tons of content. Peter King’s Monday Morning Quarterback column is absolutely priceless. They also compile a ‘Truth and Rumors’ section for each of the major sports. It’s essentially a compilation of all of the rumors from local newspapers across the country. The best part about it is it’s free, unlike ESPN’s rumors.

2. CBS SportsLine (cbs.sportsline.com) - everything is great about SportsLine - they are often the first to break news, gamecasts are innovative and effective, and for what it’s worth the fantasy sports are the best on the web. Well, they are great at everything except editorials and analysis, and they are horrible at that. Tony Mejia, Dennis Dodd, Pete Prisco, and Greg Doyle are the worst group of sports writers on the web. Where are the editorials from their on-air personalities like Jim Nantz and Billy Packer? ESPN and FOX manage to get their on-air personalities to write, maybe CBS should consider it. Read the comments at the bottom of any article by any of the aforementioned writers and you’ll realize that I’m not the only one that thinks they are horrible.

1. ESPN (www.espn.com) - they are consistently ahead of the curve in every one of the important aspects. They are the worldwide leader in sports and they show no signs of giving up that crown on the web. I commend them for getting their best personalities - John Clayton, Steven A. Smith, Barry Melrose, and Peter Gammons - to write consistently good articles. The only downside is that too much information is hidden in the ‘Insider’, ESPN’s paid service. It’s frustrating to read a headline, click, and then realize that you can’t read the story because you have to pay for it.

A fantastic place to find cool broadband quality sports video and audio clips to view online for free is the BBC sports website which you can find at http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport They also have lots of great sports content for you to enjoy including the latest sports news, the latest sports results, photo galleries, scores & fixtures information and lots more besides. One thing I really like about the Eurosport.com website is the Live Score feature which you will find on the homepage and shows you the live current scores on a range of different sports including football, tennis, cycling, motorsports, field hockey, basketball, rugby, athletics, snooker and winter sports. This site is very well designed, is constantly updated and is easy to navigate. It will definitely keep sports buffs busy for days!

SportsNews.com has a huge range of detailed and up to date sports news coverage from around the world. It is a very well laid out website which as well as having all the sports news you can handle, it also has extensive entertainment news, regional news, business news and science news.

A quality sports site which is especially good for American sports fans is Fox Sports which can be found at http://msn.foxsports.com It has detailed extensive sports news coverage of NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, golf, tennis, football, NCAA FB, Winter Olympics, Boxing, Horse Racing, F1, WNBA and beach volleyball.

Another good sports site which covers American sports is ESPN which you can find at http://espn.go.com They mainly cover MLB, NFL, College Football, NASCAR, NBA, Golf, Tennis, NHL, Soccer, Boxing, College Basketball and Womens Basketball. They have all the scores, teams and standings for all these sports. I like the design of this site which is neat and clear.

So your looking at a big at bat or a long field goal and the team is depending on you. If you hit the ball and get on base, your team will win. If you miss the kick, your team will lose. Do you think taking a few seconds before the game and meditating will do anything for you? Some people may laugh at you when you do this. Those people would be wrong because it’s no different than concentrating. Matter of fact the two tend to cross over and you do not even know it.

People meditate for several reasons. Mostly people meditate for inner strength and to gain some kind of peace with whatever they are trying to focus on. Sports are no different in this respect. If you take time to focus on your strengths rather than your weaknesses you will find yourself succeeding more often than not.

Meditating is a good method to get rid of all your bad habits, including slumps. I am not saying you will bat 1.000 in your church’s softball league, but I am saying it will make you more confident and self assured.

You will find yourself returning to meditate time and again because chances are you will never find the perfect game we all strive for. That is ok because you will find out so many other things about yourself. Most of the time you will find your eating and sleeping habits become more rounded which in turn will prepare you for whatever sport you so desire, and when you are prepared you will excel.
